2009 brought many trends into the fashion world. My personal favorites were the return of ladylike glamour and retro dressing. The worst trend of the year, in my opinion was grunge (I blame this on the fact that I finished my teens in the 90s and just want to leave most of the style from that era behind). I'm just not a grunge kind of gal!
The Beauty File's favorite trends were zippers on boots, zippers on headbands, and basically zippers on everything! She also loved lace tights and big shoulders. Least favorite for her were jeggings, liquid leggings, harem pants, and two toned hair (a la Rhinna)!

Denim Debutante loved exposed zippers and skinny jeans...both together being the best! She hated harem pants and said that they make her cry lol!
Kristin from BonBon Rose is a big fan of sequins and all of the glitz that 2009 brought! She did not care for exaggerated crotch harem pants. Her reasoning (love this)? "Saggy crotch...no thanks!"

The Fat and Skinny on Fashion loves lace, sequins, and leopard print, but does not care for tie dye or bleached anything!
The Greyest Ghost thinks that the worst trend is 'pantsless-ness' and that the best trend is the return of the combat boot!
Jennine from The Coveted love, loves chunky knits and knits of all kinds. Her least favorite trend of the year was ripped tights and ripped jeans.

Liz Franco really liked the boyfriend blazer, but the harem pant...not so much!
Pencil Skirts & Pearls loves shoe booties and sequins and thinks that the worst of the year was anything Ed Hardy and harem pants!
Ashley from Breakfast at Saks thought that the best trend of '09 was thigh high boots and thinks that harem pants are rarely a good look!
Diana from our.city.lights says that she doesn't get ripped tights. Her favorite trend (love this one!) is Michelle Obama!

Erika from Fashion Chalet loved all of the body con looks in 2009. Her least favorite trend was Rodarte for Target!

Monica from Ciao Chessa did not love the return of acid wash jeans. She did love skinny jeans and she said that she learned to love her legs again...love that!
Denise from The OCD loves leather and her least favorite trend of the year was acid denim.

D from Dream Sequins found her favorite's to be sequins, harem pants, and crazy tall shoes! Her Lease favorite were poorly made designer collaborations and head to toe 80s looks.

Couture Carrie thinks that the worst trend of 2009 was cut-off jean shorts, especially when worn with tights. The best of the year for her was Balmain's Clubbing Couture of course!

The Unbeweavable Liz thinks that the best trends of the year were over the knee boots and leggings. The worst for her were harem pants and shoulder pads!

Liz blogged that these babies are the boots dreams are made off
Tiffany from I am Style-ish loves platform heels (have you seen her shoe collection? I. die.)! Her least favorite trend was torn up jeans and leggings.

Alison from Frou Frou Fashionista thought that the best trend of 2009 was the 'no pants' look a la Lady Gaga and Christian Dior runway. She also loves the boyfriend jean and jeggings (despite the lame name!). She thinks that the harem pant looks really good on the runway/models but rarely in real life.

Midtown Girl's favorite trend is the peep toe wedge and her least favorite are harem pants ('dump in your pants' as her prolific friend calls them)!
Issa from We Wear Things does not like the trend of weird egg shaped dresses (banded above the chest and at the bottom) and can't wrap her head around the oxymoron that is the open toed boot (especially tall ones), though this could be due to the fact that she doesn't care for her toes! She loves fabulously high heels and the focus that 2009 brought to them!

Wendy B's responses are so fabulous, I have to pass them on verbatim.

"Favorite trend: Sequins for day and night. To me, sequins are like Champagne. You simply have to feel festive while indulging. For day, I like my L'Wren Scott sequin pants, especially because gorgeous bloggers Sharon Rose and Times of Glory helped me pick them out. For night, it's my Antik Batik dress with matte sequins.

Least favorite trend: I can't bear bandeau bikini tops. They don't do anyone justice. To prove my point, consider the strapless bra, which is worn out of necessity under clothes, not for enjoyment. A strapless bra is not sexy lingerie. You don't slink around the house in your strapless bra. Instead, as soon as you get home, you take it off along with your Spanx. Basically, a bandeau bikini looks like a strapless bra...without the support!"
I woke up this morning to an email from Wendy titled, "Am I right or am I right?" with a link to this attached.

This is why I love her.
Thanks for playing along everyone! What do you think was the best & worst trend of the year?
There is a lot of hate for the harem pant!

I hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe time tonight! We will be spending the evening with friends and hopefully making it home by 10 to ring in the new year safe and sound.
Happy New Year!!

Have a safe and wonderful NYE!
Happy 2010!
This is so fabulous...you are a total blogging BABE for pulling this off...and SO quickly!! Love that everyone despises harem pants and Wendy B. is one funny mf'er! Also loved Amy {Midtown Girl's} "dump in your pants" description because it's so appropriate!
Happy New Year darlin!!
That is such a great idea, and great execution!
Happy New Year!
yes! i definitely agree that the harem pants are just awful, ugly, ridiculous things. "dump in your pants" pants is the perfect description!
i don't think i have a favorite and least favorite trend. i can never pick up on trends because they seem to recirculate every year or every few years, and i get confused. i have to say that i do like some of the return of the 90s. it's definitely my favorite decade. just a little hint of grunge can be nice. nothing head to toe though!
p.s. a big, fat happy new year to you and the family!
lol harem pants definitely have to go! and i cant get enough tights and sequins, all those answers were great. haha what wonderful ladies you had! happy new year lady! enjoy your night:)
Crazy amazing EPIC post lady! Loved it! And could Wendy B BE any more fabulous?? The uni-boob look isn't so attractive is it? Ah ha ha. Happy New Year lady!!
Oh and the First Lady....she is an AMAZING trend!!
oh the first lady! she reminds me of mrs kennedy. happy new years!
oh man...i forgot to tell you mine. boo on me.
fav trend...anything with leather, chains, studs and zippers.
worst trend...fuckin ED HARDY ANYTHING! i like to call it the douche trend which also includes over embellished jeans and affliction tees.
LOVE this post! what a great idea & a fun way to look back on 2009. happy new year to you & R! i wish you an awesome 2010! xoxo
Oh, poor harem pants. Maybe the next generation of our kids will bring it back.
I totally agree with you about the bandeau top!!! I don't get that either!
Thanks for including me with all these amazing fashion bloggers!
Thanks for including me. And seriously, perky bosom + bandeau bikini = non-perky appearance!
What a fabulous round-up! My favorite trends of the year were ankle-boots, sequins, lace and chunky jewelry. Least favorite were big shoulders, shredded clothes, shorts w/ tights & peep toe booties.
This was so fun! Such a great post lovie!! Thanks for including meeee.
Leggings FTW! lol.
OMG saggy crotch hahaha
Happy New Year! I love you and I'm glad we found each other in 2009...here's to more adventures in 2010 woop!!! SATC in NYC please and thank you!

Couture Carrie, I adore you! :)
Oh wow, you did such a great job on this! I love sequins, tie dye and tights, I have to say. Happy New Year and have fun!
Sorry I didn't "think fast" Been reviving this laptop all day. Thoroughly enjoyed reading what the other ladies sent you :D
nicely done~
i love leather and am not a fan of harem pants!
really nice!!!
but well just wanna say Happy new year happy 2010!! yayay, wishing u all the best! *hugs* &hope to talk to u soon~
I agree with harem pants. They're evil and should never be worn by anyone in its original, unmodified form (baggy crotch and all)
I do live the continuing trend of skinny jeans, the new trend of glam sequins and more leather+studs+draping!!!!
What a fun list! Thanks for sharing! :)
heheh i love it! there were so many i forgot about, sequins, high shoes and love them all the same!
it's really nice to see what other bloggers love and don't love so much too!
happy new year!
I really loved this post. It's such a great fashion review of the times. I do hope the sequins continue this year. I just love them as much as I do the champagne. Happy New Year. 40isthenewfabulous.blogspot.com
this is fantastic! i love everyone's picks. so interesting hearing what everyone's favorite trends were & the most hated as well!
happy new year darling!!
xoxo
Love, love LOVE the "Michelle Obama" as a favorite trend. Hahaha! I'll yell it to her next time I walk by on the way to work.
Great post! It's so interesting to see what some people hate, that others love. My fav trends for 2009 were the leggings of any kind, boyfriend blazers, and leather. My least favourites were harem pants (though never really saw anyone in these), tie-dyed jeans, and boyfriend jeans (they're just sloppy!).
I just discovered your blog.
I think harem pants and acid-washed jeans are ugly. Same with Ed Hardy. Extreme shoulders are pretty unattractive too.
I love Michelle Obama, sequins, and leather as trends.
Such an interesting post ! :)
amazing post!!! harem pants are the worst thing ever..awful1
Happy New Year :)
This post is even better than I could have hoped, darling! Amazing job -- I know all the work you put in to get this fab post together, so bravo!
Happy New Year!!
xoxox,
CC
All of this wonderful inspiration from some of my favorite bloggers! I love those gorgeous sequin dresses that D of Dream Sequins and Wendy are rocking!
I don't care what people think about harem pants-- I'm going to continue wearing them in 2010. LOL. Great list of trends. Thank you for including mine in such a wonderful list of inspirational bloggers :) Happy 2010 to you, dear!! Here's to a new year full of trends we can embrace and shun :)
darling this is a fab post. love the images!

Happy New Year dear and great, great recaps!
Yes to sequins and thigh high boots - make them classics and not just trends!
Lovely post and gorgeous blog!
Happy New Year!
Ugh, harem pants and acid washed jeans made me vomit. And Ed Hardy sweatsuits and embellished clothing was very hard on the eyes.
I'm loving the boyfriend style with jeans and blazers, and hope they're here to stay! And skinny jeans make me beyond happy!
I loved this post, dear, and I hope you had a fabulous New Years Eve. Can't wait to keep up with your blog through the new year =)
Great post! Happy new year!
nice post. thanks.
WOW! Great selection!
Happy New Year!

X♥X♥
such a great post! love this and all the wonderful bloggers. How fun, i hope you do this again next year!
Loved this post!
Fave trends: sequins and jumpsuits. But not together ;)
Worst trend: Ed Hardy. I'm so not taking fashion advice from Jon Gossellin.
what a sassy post. so fun. hope you are having a great start to your year.
such a fun post!! thanks for including me :)
and happy 2010 to you and your hubby and pups!!
Oh man, why did everyone hate on the harem pant, and WHY did you choose that picture of the ugliest pair of harem/metallic tiger-printed harem pants ever conceived by human hands?? They can look a lot better than that, I swear.
Sorry I didn't get mine to you in time, but here they are anyway--
Best: hoof-like shoes
Worst: strong shoulders
:)
Very nice blog and I love the set up for the faves. Great idea.
lol...I must have blocked out the return of the harem pant bc I definitely hate them.
what an awesome list.
happy new year!!
xoxo
